CBFC Clarifies Role After Objections to Yash’s “Toxic” Teaser

The Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) has issued a clarification after objections were raised over the teaser of actor Yash’s upcoming film Toxic. The controversy emerged following complaints about certain scenes shown in the teaser, which was released on YouTube.

Toxic is one of the most awaited films in Yash’s career and its teaser created a strong buzz online. While many viewers appreciated the high production quality and Yash’s screen presence, a section of the audience expressed concern over specific visuals. The criticism mainly focused on Yash’s entry sequence and a scene inside a car.

The Karnataka State Commission for Women was among the bodies that raised objections and wrote to the CBFC, questioning how such scenes were allowed and whether the film had already received censor certification.

In response, the CBFC clarified that teaser content released on digital platforms like YouTube does not come under its authority. The board stated that its role is limited to certifying films meant for theatrical release. Since the Toxic teaser was published online, it does not fall within the CBFC’s legal jurisdiction.

The CBFC further confirmed that the makers of Toxic have not yet applied for certification of the film. As of now, no application has been submitted, and therefore, no certificate has been issued. The board explained that it will review the film only after the producers formally submit it for certification, following the process laid down by law.

Addressing concerns raised by various groups, the CBFC reiterated that it cannot comment on or act against content released outside its scope. Digital platforms are governed by separate regulations, and online promotional material does not require prior approval from the censor board.

With this clarification, the CBFC made it clear that there is no restriction or action taken against the Toxic teaser from its side. Any decision related to certification will be made only after the complete film is presented for theatrical release.
